Nortel Networks U.S. Patent No. 6,757,732 B1, "Text-Based Communications over a Data Network," may contain claims that are believed necessary for practicing the resulting IETF Standard. This patent also has a pending foreign equivalent published as WO 01/69883 A2 titled "Text-Based Communications over a Data Network."
