light was lower so the shade was darker.

Interesting idea of working with the shadow instead of the light.  A little more
detail would be nice though.  Also, you might have better results if you turn
down the ambient value of the textures (they are looking a little too bright in
the shade, the trunk of the tree in particular).  Oh, and radiosity is amazing,
you should look into it.
