Focal blur doesn't make an image more impressive, it usually tends to ruin it.

Good looking, though you should have refined the placement of the bricks and the
gate and the camera to make it "mean" something or make it "do" something... 
for example, this might have been the portal to the world of brick-building!

Simple but well done!  Many other entiries tried to do something simple but
failed because they didn't make it interesting.  Your image succeeds at this. 
Excellent work with the camera and DOF.  The choice of color schemes works well
too.  The only reason I don't rate it higher on technical merit is that it
needed more detail in the structure to be a winning image.  Still it is a nice
image in its own right.

Very simple design.  The focal blur seems to be used to zero effect.  Nice use
