IMAGE DESCRIPTION:
Immediately after reading the topic "warfare" I thought of the game chess,
because I think of it as the ultimate battle between kings. But because a
chessboard is the cliché of 3d rendering and because it doesn't suit the
topic perfectly I knew I had to make it different. Thinking of my old toys
the "Transformers" I thought of a reasonable way to stick guns to my chess
pieces. I wanted to make the pieces look like they folded out, which only
succeeded with the peasants. Also the queen is a bit off the robotics idea,
but I wanted to make her look special.
This is my first IRTC entry and I'm looking forward for some critical comments.

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:
I started out making my scene in Povray 3.1, but shifted it to 3.5beta
(not without problems) when I saw the announcement on the internet.
The pieces was done first using lathe, and then turned to transformers
using a truckload of CSG commands. For the queen's electronic field an
emitting media was used, with a semi transparent agate colormap. The light
from the door is the only light source in the scene, but some light is also
achieved from radiosity using a gradient sky sphere. The sphere is gradient
yellow-darkblue to underline the yellowish light from the door and the
darkblue indicates the cold darkness behind the scene. The long rendering
is because of the exaggerated quality of the radiosity and media.
