Nicely framed...good lighting.  The marks were lost  
because the leaves almost appear to be floating - the 
main stems are too thin.  The brick is far too sharp 
edged.

Techniaclly.  You sold me on the plant stem not 
withstanding), and the mouldy stuff is great. However, 
the bricks are far to integral a part of the image...the 
bricks stick out too far, and while you did an decent job 
keeping the texture fairly random, their edges are way 
too sharp.  the texture for the step bricks is too flat - you 
needed to increase the bump map depth.

Concept - I apologize for my thick head, but I just don't 
see contrast out of that, even after reading the text file

See, that's the problem with rough textures on simple objects: the sharp
edges on the bricks look unnatural against the very rough texture on the
rest of the brick.  Something about the lighting/composition also obscures
the very thing you want to emphasize: that the plant is growing right out
from a crack in the bricks.  Instead, the pencil-like plant stalks are more
eye-catching.
Varied materials (stone wall / brick steps, brick wall / concrete steps)
would help, too.

The pine needles are usualy slightly bent.  The stright 
ones look a bit too much like rods :)  Plaster between 
bricks are usualy a bit more shallow too.
