DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: 


Modelling:
Skarabeus based on modified by FFD (free form deformation) geospheres
The desert are the boxes modified by FFD

Materials:
Skarabeus - in example: the head

material type: shellac (plugin for MAX2)
        first submaterial: standard
         shading: metal
         color: dark bronze
         diffuse: mix
          first submaterial: the bitmap (with the orange paint)
          second submaterial: mix
           first submaterial: cellular (in the bronze)
           second submaterial: cellular (in the dark green, bigger)
           mask: second cellular, modified
          mask: the greyscal version of the diffuse bitmap, in greyscale,
inverted
         bump: cellular
        second submaterial: standard
         shading: metal
         color: deep purple

The desert material are simple: I use the deserts surface scan and put this in
the diffuse, bump and shiness canal (with the some mofification)

Lights:
The scene was lighted by 5 lights: two directional and three omni

Next, I add the tiny fog and Lens Effect Focus

The image was cropped in the Photoshop, and I add the logo
