IMAGE DESCRIPTION:
"SoulCages" was inspired by the song "Soul Cages" by
Sting.

The image was created using GALAXY INCLUDE FILE for Persistence of Vision 3.x,
Created by Chris Colefax, 1 February 1998 Updated 9 August 1998: updated for
POV-Ray 3.1. Galaxy was used to create a random galaxy file, "RAND032.TGA"
which was then renamed "rjcage.tga" and used as an image_map for the "ocean"
plane object. Note: It has been resized for the IRTC zipfile.
The terrain is a height_field of a Mandelbrot GIF "bump_map.gif" included with
POVWIN v3.02 (?), which i have renamed "rjcage.gif".
The "souls" were created using the "POVPEOPL" plugin for POV-Ray 3.1, Created
by Hero Ngauv, 1997. The POVPEOPL include files "people.inc" and "texture.inc"
were modified be me; renamed "soulman.inc", and "soul_txt.inc", respectively.
The background planet was created using a technique introduced by Ville Saari
in 1990; using a planet-like sphere, with a slightly larger semi-transparent
sphere surrounding, to simulate a thin cloud layer.
The Sun_Sphere is an emitting halo object, with a "looks_like" point_light at
its center.
Two fogs are used; a thick ground fog, to hide the jagged edges where the
"ocean" plane slices through the Mandelbrot height_field, and a light constant
fog, to smooth and blend the entire image a bit.
Many of the objects were modeled and roughly positioned with Moray. I also
used Moray to preview textures, which i subsequently fine-tuned with a text
editor. The background planet was created with a text editor using Ville
Saari's "Planet" as a template, and later imported into "SoulCages".
I have attempted to notify Chris Colefax, Hero Ngauv, and Ville Saari
concerning my use of their programs and techniques. I have included the
original files "Galaxy.zip", "POVPEOPL.zip", and "planet.pov" in their
unmodified entirety, in order to comply with copyright restrictions.
