From bobfranke@halcyon.com:
This is a great image, but it violates a rule. Images are
to be created specifically for the competition. Although
this entry fits with the topic, I reduced the concept
score.

You are apparently new to the competition, and there
are a few things to look out for. It is stated as a
raytracing competition, but any raytracng or rendering
software can be used. Post processing is severely
limited. While they are ok to use, image maps are
discouraged by many of the voters. The emphasis is on
modeling, textures and the output directly from the
tracing/rendering software. This often makes some
things harder to do, but I guess that is the point.

I checked your site, and you have some very good art
on display. Please consider entering again with the
above comments in mind. I want to see more of what
you can do.

Technically excellent! Gruesomeness of theme prevents a "20" Artistic score.
And would something so thoroughly skeletonized represent a "FIRST" encounter?

From klynn@uswest.net:
might have made a good image for the "Horror" competition!

A stunning image. I would dearly love to see that spider at greater resolution.

From Sean_Hamilton@amrcorp.com:
Nice job! Hopefully you'll put in something very memorable for the Horror round
in '99!

Very, very well done.

Very creepy...

From djconnel@flash.net:
Nice picture!

A suggestion : describe more of your procedure for
making the image. Did you
design the spider, just texture it, or just include it from a
library? What about
the skeleton?

Also, I recommend a bit more background be used. Pure
blackness has its
effect, but some background would help a lot here.

Still -- it's quite haunting, and stunningly "realistic" in its
representation!

nice spider and web

Exceptionally well done.
Macabre but realistic.
The web is quite an achievement.
The whole image is extremely striking, artistic and on
topic.

Fantastic!

Based on your text description, I began to suspect that this image had not
been created specifically for this competition. That it was instead created
for some other purpose. After examining your website, I have come to the
conclusion that I was correct in this assumption. The intent of the
competition is to attempt to create an image within the bounds of the
competition's timeframe, from the date of announcement until the closing
date. I have adjusted my scoring accordlingly.

Beyond all that, let me compliment you on a wonderfully morbid image. :{)

Great picture, but wouldn't it fit better in the horror round? It seems to me
the poor fellow in the web has met the spider quite some time ago already..
Notable for modelling
