IMAGE DESCRIPTION:

Faint of heart, beware...

Now, I wonder if I have to explain this, as the (few, I think) people who don't
know the Freddy Krueger Series won't see the link to the topic.

Freddy, the villain in the series, is a deranged assassin, who murders children
in Elm-Street. The parents decide to end this by doing away with the guy, and
burning his remains in the Oven (Background of the picture). After this, he
gets transformed into the Freddy we know (I added a picture in the Zip file),
with his unique feature, the razor-claw...
I personnaly don't think that the link to the topic might be tedious. I hope you
don't think so too <g>. And... no, the image is *not* a project for the
previous topic, which didn't get finished in time, despite the movie theme ;)

I admit that neither the movies, and therefore neither my adaptation of the
theme are very pleasant and/or of good taste, but hey, that's what
horror-movies are all about. So, my wish is, even if you don't like this kind
of movie, please respect those who do, and vote objectively. For all those who
like the series, I hope I could get the feeling of it across.
Nevertheless, I hope I did not hurt any feelings. If I did, my appologies.

Last minute addition : as every topic has it's favorite object/model (read :
every 3rd image got it, and everyone gets pretty fed up...), I'm pretty sure
that the teddy-bear will rank high on the list this round. Just my modest
contribution ;)

Again, my thanks to Portalkeeper (http://www.thelostportal.com) who provides me
with the initial sparks of the ideas. Hi there

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:

This time I tried my hand (no pun intended...) with Moray 2.5b and 3.0. A most
excellent modeller which I can but recommend. I usually model my scenes by
hand, but Moray might make me change my mind.

. The glove is made out of sPatch models and CSGs. The hand is made of Blobs.

. The teddy is made of Blobs and stuff.

. The background is all CSG, with the exception of the handle and blade of the
shovel, which are bicubic patches. The bricks are all primitives, and not a
brick-texture, which I hope is apparent.

. The street sign is an Image_map, taken from a screenshot.

. Lighning is provided by 3 sources : one inside the oven for the reddish glow,
and one outside the window, coming from the lightning strike. An area_light
illuminates the hand from close up, and has a very short fade_distance. The
light bulb in the room is broken. The scene plays in the middle of the night,
of course.
To give a creepy feeling to the scene (and because most of the comments for my
last scene were about unnaturally bright colors), I opted to leave most of the
scene in shadow, and leave the viewer to guess, and not to see, my highly
detailed modelling <g>.
I used some atmosphere dust settings for the red glow of the oven. After cutting
down on atmosphere and lights, I was also able to render the scene with
radiosity.

. The sleeve is a gradient texture with turbulence, and transparency on the edge
to give it a cloth-like apearance. The texture of the cloth is made by a
gradient sine-wave normal.

. Signature : ingraved it in the ring-finger blade

. known bugs ;) :
-there is a strange dark band on the skin of the arm between the sleeve and the
glove. Look like a shadow, but it appears only with radiosity switched on.
-Between the vent and the roof, on the left side, there is some strange
reflection or illumination or caustics (for loss of a better word). This
happens also with radiosity on, and is no artifact of JPEG compression. Gives a
kinda cool effect though, although unfortunately not intended...
-I had a flare on one of the blades, but with radiosity (again) the whole
container of the flare appears. So I had to take it out. Shame.
-The sleeve cloth texture gives some strange moire effects.

. I included a Zip file of all objects, but the TTF files. If someone wants the
Moray MDL file, I'd be glad to send it by e-mail, although I did a lot of
tweaking the code later on.

Cheers, and good luck to all,
Gerard Schockmel
